Formula 1 2007 Germany

Back to Motorsport

Sunday 22nd July is the date that the Nürburgring hosts 2007 German Grand Prix, a Lewis Hamilton looks to get his debut F1 title challenge back on track after having his lead cut to 12 points at the British Grand Prix. Ferrari claimed an impressive 1-2 finish on the podium, with Hamilton coming in 3rd after starting the race in pole position.

The original Nurburgring ran for a massive 22.5 kilometres (14 miles). It was so long that it was impossible to remember the racing line. After Niki Lauda's horrendous crash in 1976 in which he suffered awful burns, the track was deemed unsafe and its F1 license was removed.

The Nurburgring underwent mass redevelopment and in 1984 a race was held for the first time in 8 years. The track was then used on and off, hosting the Luxemburg and European Grand Prix's. In 2006 it finally played host to the German Grand Prix and under a new agreement the German Grand Prix will alternate between there and Hockenheim.
