The Community Shield (Formerly the Charity Shield) is the first fixture on the calender of the new football season. The first ever Charity Shield match was contested in 1908 between League Champions Manchester United and Queens Park Rangers who were Champions of the Southern League. The match went to a replay, which was played at Stamford bridge and won by Manchester United. It was not until 1974 that it was suggested that the Shield should be contested at Wembley, between the reigning League Champions and FA Cup holders.

The current Champions are 15-time winners Liverpool, who beat Chelsea 2-1 in Cardiff. This years encounter will be between Chelsea and Manchester United and will be the first Community Shield match at the new Wembley stadium.

The 2007 Community Shield match will return to Wembley Stadium. The game will be played on 5 August 2007, kicking-off at 15:00 (GMT).
