Sunderland FC

Sunderland's supporters have suffered a rollercoaster ride since the Premier League's inception in 1992. Having flirted with promotion from what is now the Championship, Peter Reid finnally guided his team to glory and the Black Cats made their Premiership debut in 1999. With the help of England striker Kevin Phillips, Reid's men showed they were no pushovers with successive seventh place finishes.

Reid ended a successful seven year spell on Wearside in 2002 and the club were relegated from the Premier League in the 2002/03 season. Eventually bouncing back in 2004/05, Sunderland were relegated once again - finishing the 2005/06 season with a palty 15 points.

Roy Keane was appointed as boss in August 2006 and if the fiery Manchester United captain's playing career was anything to go by then the fans at the Stadium of Light were in for a treat. Keane and Sunderland did not dissapoint. Finishing as champions with 88 points, Keane's tough, no-nonsense style paid dividends and the impressive 49,000 Stadium of Light will see Premier League football once again. With Keane and chairman Niall Quinn at the helm, Sunderland's supporters will be looking to become an established Premier League side in years to come.
