Middlesborough FC
Middlesborough's Premiership years got off to a bad start as, although they were a founder member of the Premier League, they were relegated at the end of the first season. Bouncing back in 1995, Middlesborough's second stint in the Premier League came as they rather fittingly moved into the 35,049 capacity Riverside Stadium.
Life-long fan and chairman Steve Gibson oversaw the move from Ayresome Park to the Riverside Stadium and further investment into the club saw a string of both international and English stars arrive on Teeside, including, Brazilians Juninho and Emerson, Fabrizio Ravinelli, Gazza and Paul Merson.
The 1996/97 season saw 'Boro reached both the FA and League Cup finals although they were defeated in both by Chelsea and Leicester respectively. They again reached the League Cup final in 2004 and secured the club's first ever trophy with victory over Bolton. The following season they finished seventh in the Premier League and secured a place in the 2005/06 UEFA Cup final. Under the guidance of current England boss Steve McClaren, 'Boro made the most of their opportunity, embarking on a remarkable cup run, losing only to Sevilla 4-0 in the final.
McClaren left to take up his current post in the summer of 2006 and was replaced by former Middlesborough fans-favourite, Gareth Southgate.
