Manchester City FC
Under the guidance of former England manager Kevin Keegan, Manchester City won promotion to the Premier League in May 2002 and have since consolidated their position in the top-flight.
Keegan's tenure at Maine Road, between 2001 and 2005, provided City's fans with exciting and attacking football which had become typical of Keegan's teams. In their promotion season City scored 108 goals and stormed the league, finishing on 99 points, ten ahead of their nearest competitor.
In their first season in the Premier League, Manchester City's entertaining style was rewarded with a ninth place finish. This was bettered in the 2004/05 season when City finished eighth, although Keegan left in March, two months before the season was over. Former England favourite Stuart Pearce took over as boss and the hard-man's more defensive style did not pay dividends as the Blues finished 15th and 14th during his two seasons in charge.
City's most high-profile signing of recent years must be the appointment of former England manager Sven Goran-Erikkson in July 2007. Erikkson served as England manager between 2001 and 2006 and Manchester City will be looking to progress under his experienced guidance.
