Liverpool FC
Liverpool Football Club have a rich and illustrious history of top-flight and European success but have failed to make their mark on the Premier League since its inception in 1992. The Reds' best finish has been second but they have collected a number of other trophies in the past 15 years.
A number of managers have passed through Anfield's doors since Graeme Souness departed in 1994 and the glory days were shortly relived in 2001 with then-boss Gerard Houllier leading Liverpool to a staggering five trophies in one season. Current boss Rafael Benitez took charge in 2004 and the Spaniard secured success in his first season, guiding Liverpool to the Champions League final where they dramatically beat AC Milan on penalties. It was the Merseyside clubs fifth European triumph and expectation remains high at Anfield to secure that elusive first Premier League title.
Liverpool currently play at their historic 45,362 capacity stadium, Anfield although a new stadium is in the early stages of construction at Stanley Park. American duo George Gillett and Tom Hicks secured control of the club in early 2007 and will need to invest if they are to mount a title challenge in coming years.
