Blackburn Rovers FC
Jack Walker is a name synonomous with Blackburn Rovers and his association with the club is one of the Premier League's most compelling stories.
Walker made his fortune in the steel industry and eventually sold his company, British Steel, for £360m. Walker's investment in the club he had supported passionately since he was a boy eventually provided one of the most exciting exciting title races the Premiership has seen to date.
Twice breaking the British record for the most expensive transfer, Alan Shearer from Southampton for £3.3m in 1992 and Chris Sutton from Norwich City for £5m in 1994, Blackburn Rovers, managed by Kenny Dalglish, pipped Manchester United to the title in the 1994/95 season. The 'SAS' frontline of Shearer and Sutton scored more than 50 league goals between them to clinch the title after United, needing a win, only drew 1-1 against West Ham at Upton Park on the final day of the season.
In 1999 Rovers became the first champions to be relegated from the Premier League and sadly Walker passed away before they returned to the top-flight at the end of the 2001/02 season.
Since then Blackburn's have achieved a number of top ten finishes and a League Cup win in 2002 and, under the guidance of impressive young manager Mark Hughes, will be looking to secure a UEFA cup spot in future.
