Peter Crouch

DOB January 30 1981 Birthplace Macclesfield, England

Position Striker Team Liverpool

Peter Crouch has been considered to be a bit of a novelty for much of his career, however, a double figure goal tally in the premiership, a big money move to Liverpool and an international hat-trick prove that there is more to Peter Crouch than he is often given credit for.

After spending 2 years with Tottenham Hotspur without making an appearance, Peter Crouch was snapped up by QPR. After one season impressed enough to earn a transfer to Portsmouth. Crouch then got his chance to show his capabilities in the Premiership, securing a £5million move to Aston Villa. After a disapointing 6 goals in 37 games in for the midlands club, the 6ft7" striker was pawned off to Southampton at the end of the 03/04 season, much to the delight of many Villa fans, for a cut price £2 million. Crouch instantly became a fans favourite at Southampton, instantly forming a partnership with Kevin Phillips, to which he contributed 16 goals in 33 appearances. Despite an impressive season with The Saints, Crouch could not save the South Coast side from the perils of relegation.

Following his relegation with Southampton, Crouch signed for Liverpool that summer for £7million. Despite a 4 month goal drought at the beginning of his career on Merseyside and the majority of the British Press and football fans around the country constantly critising the big man, the Liverpool fans stuck by him. Even for the first few games of his international career, crouch was booed by England fans. However, as Crouch now prepares to go into his 3rd season with Liverpool, things have changed. He is widely renowned not just as an aeriel threat, but as a real danger man up front. He has as good of a first touch as the worlds greatest players, as well as being very skilfull and possesing a keen eye for goal.

Although Crouch now has a fantastic goalscoring record for Liverpool and a more than impressive 12 goals in only 19 appearances for England, he often still finds himself warming the bench for both club and country. This is often blamed on the team reverting to long ball tactics when Crouch is on the pitch.
