London born John Terry is the captain of Chelsea and England. The 6ft1" centre back is regarded as one of the fines defenders in the world, winning many awards to support this claim. Terry made his Chelsea debut as a substitute against Aston Villa in 1998 and became a regular at centre back in the 2000/01 season alongside French legend Marcel Desailly. Following a successful season in 2003/04 and the retirement of Desially, Terry was given the captains armband by then manager Claudio Ranieri. Following the arrival of Jose Mourinho to the club, John Terry was named as permanent captain at Chelsea and has formed a close relationship with his manager.
After the disappointment of an early exit from the 2006 World Cup, Sven Goren Eriksson quit as national team boss and David Beckham handed over the captaincy. Steve McClaren was named the new coach and he selected Terry as his voice amongst the players. Steven Gerrard was chosen as his vice-captain. The Chelsea man's tenancy as captain of is country started with a bang as England won 4-0 in a friendly against Greece, with Terry opening the scoring. However, his dream start as captain was short lived as England failed to win several of their 2008 European Championship qualifier matches, leaving them in a position where they may not even qualify.
