Arjen Robben is a Dutch footballer who currently plays as a winger for Chelsea F.C. in the Barclay's Premiership.
Robben began his career for F.C. Groningen in 2000, but was quickly bought by PSV Eindhoven just before their 2002/03 season. In his first 33 games he managed to score 12 goals. He quickly won the PSV Player Of The Year and then the Talented Player of the Year Awards while at the club.
After Manchester United showed interest but failed to meet the offer that PSV Eindhoven wanted, Chelsea then offered 12.1 million and Eindhoven accepted. His final days at the club were not all happy as he injured his hamstring twice and only scored 5 times in 23 matches.
Robben finally made his chelsea debut in November 2004 but was injured in a pre season match and only managed 18 games of 2004/05 season. His fewest professional games ever. On his return from injury he was awarded "Barclay's Man of the Match" for his performance against Everton. He was also awarded "Player of the month."
He then consequently flourished at Chelsea and became an outstanding winger with incredible skill and pace. His fluid ball control and play gelled well with the striker Didier Drogba and his opposite winger Damien Duff. His ability to get the ball down the wing quickly has often helped a team that has problems with decent dribbling.
It now appears Arjen Robben is at the center of a transfer bid by Real Madrid. Bernd Schuster has reiterated the fact that he wants Robben at the Bernabeu next season to strengthen his wing. Negotiations are still underway and talks over a new contract at Chelsea have ground to a halt.
