Woolmer death doesn't halt Pakistan's play

21st Mar 2007

The investigation into the suspicious death of Pakistans coach Bob Woolmer has not stopped the team from playing in their final world cup fixture today against Zimbabwe.

Less than 24 hours after Pakistans defeat to Ireland which ended their World Cup interest, Woolmer was found unconscious in his hotel room and later pronounced dead at hospital on Sunday in Kingston, Jamaica.

Despite concerns about the teams frame of mind, a meeting between their management and the ICC concluded that the game should go ahead. "The Pakistan management indicated they were comfortable with the arrangements surrounding the team and that the match would take place," read an ICC statement.

"The match will be preceded by a minute's silence as a mark of respect for former Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer, who passed away on Sunday."
