Sunderland Claim Britains Most Expensive Keeper
9th Aug 2007Sunderland have captured the signature of Hearts captain and Scotland number 1 Craig Gordon. The young keeper has signed for the black cats in a deal that could rise to £9 million, making him Britain’s most expensive goalkeeper ever. The previous record was held by Fabian Barthez, who cost Manchester United £7.8 Million when he crossed the channel in 2000. The fee also breaks Sunderland’s previous transfer record of £6.75 million that brought Tore Andre Flo to the Stadium of Light in 2002.
Roy Keane is understandably happy with the capture of the 24 year old and he has said that Gordon will be a huge asset to Sunderland for many, many years.
