Nicklaud - "I've never seen steroids in golf"

20th Jul 2007

Golf legend Jack Nicklaus has hit back at claims by fellow ex-pro Gary Player that drug-use is rife in golf.

Player, 71, said he knew "for a fact that some golfers are doing it" but Nicklaus was shocked by Player's claim, which came on the eve of the 136th Open.

"I always look at golf as a game of integrity. Guys have always called penalties on themselves, always goverened themselves, always felt you're only cheating yourself if you do indeed cheat", Nicklaus, who won 16 majors between 1962 and 1986, told The Metro.

"I've never seen any drugs or steroids in golf. Maybe I'm a long way out of the game. But I like to think there's not [a problem".
