Minnow beats Mickelson
16th Jul 2007World number 320 Gregory Havret held is nerve to win the Scottish Open, beating world number 3 Phil Mickelson on the first hole of a sudden-death play-off.
The two men had both finished on 14 under par, at Loch Lomond, ahead of a strong leader board. On the play-off hole, Mickelson hit a poor tee-shot into the bushes, a mistake that lead to him needing four shots to hit the green. Frenchman Havret, who found a greenside bunker, recovered to hit a par four, clinching a massive £500,000 first prize. Havret has now earned a place at this week’s Open, which will be his debut major tournament
