Liverpool Capture the Next Henry

13th Jul 2007

Liverpool have completed signing of Dutch wonderkid Ryan Babel from European giants Ajax for a cool £11.5 million. After impressing in the summer's under 21 European Championships for Holland he has signed a 5 year deal.

Ajax had previously stated that they were not looking to sell Babel, after rejecting a £10 million bid from the reds. However, after it was believed that they were holding out for a fee in the region of £14 million, they decided to grant Babel his wish and allow him to move to Anfield.

Ryan Babel is just the latest in a host of high profile summer signings, which has seen Liverpool spend over £50 million! Other big names to move to Merseyside this summer include Fernando Torres from Athletico Madrid in a club record signing of £28 million and Yossi Benayoun from West Ham United.

After a catalogue of big signings to join up with the likes of Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher, Liverpool are surely expected to make a title challenge in the forthcoming premiership season or to at least gain some ground on Chelsea and Manchester United
