First Day of Wimbledon 2007 - total washout?

25th Jun 2007

The forecasts are not good for the first week of Wimbledon 2007. Fans who have been queuing since Saturday are optimistic, but this time last year only 45 minutes of tennis were played on the first day.

Leading the order fo play today is last years champion, Roger Federer who is first on Centre Court against Russian Teimuraz Gabashvili. Tim Henman is second on against Spains Carlos Moya. Hopefully Tim is back on form after a disasterous few tournaments.

The other big clashes today are Andy Roddick of the USA against Gimelstob, also American. Justine Henin also takes to teh court today as do former Champions Serena Williams and Martina Hingis.

With Federer dominating the mens game it looks like the ladies at Wimbledon could bring a lot more diversity and excitement this year...If the rain stops long enough for any tennis to be played that is!!!
