Will The Apple iPad Be Successful? Online Betting Odds

22nd March, 2010

British bookmakers predict that Apple’s iPad will not be as successful as the iPhone and have opened online betting markets.

The iPhone, which went on sale back in June 2007 took just 74 days to make one million sales; this was with considerably less ‘hype’ surrounding the project and with the product having a touch screen which at the time was a huge novelty. Bookies believe that it’s unlikely that the iPad, which is a keyboardless netbook, will have the same success and will sell one million within 74 days.

Bookies say that despite saturation marketing, much of which has been free from the worldwide press, the odds are against the iPad being successful.

According to Bloomberg, it doesn’t matter what Apple brings to the market place, there will no doubt be large sales levels, and however with this particular product it may not be as practical as the iPhone and therefore less popular in the consumer markets.

The odds would certainly be lower if bookmakers and punters were more aware of Apple’s occasional turkey products in the past, anyone own an Apple TV?

Paddy Power has opened the betting at 3/1 that iPad sales surge past 6million in 2010 with odds of 8/1 that less than one million units will be sold.
