Weekend and New Year Betting Tips
27th December, 2007
Saturday Treble
If Birmingham are going to preserve their top flight place this season they have to beat teams like Fulham at home and they can't afford to make any mistakes on Saturday. Sunderland v Bolton is likely to be a very close affair and the points can be shared. Spurs are gradually improving and they are fancied to overcome Reading at The Lane.
Sunday Double
Man City v Liverpool and Derby v Blackburn are the TV games on Sunday. The double for the home teams to win is around 12-1 and that is decent value and worth a punt as City have been very tough on their own patch this season and Derby have improved lately and will be no pushovers for Rovers. Remember if Derby win their match (KO 1.30pm) you will be in a position to trade on the exchanges on the other match which KOs at 4pm and lock in a profit.
New Year's Day treble
On New Year's Day Chelsea should be too strong for Fulham at Craven Cottage and Arsenal will probably carry too many guns for West Ham at the Emirates Stadium in the London derbies while Spurs are capable of earning a point at Aston Villa.
Betting without the Big 4
As we reach the halfway point in the season, backing Everton for the Premier League in the betting without the big 4 could be a profitable move. The Toffees' unbeaten sequence (thirteen in all competitions) came to an end against Man United last Sunday but they went desperately close to securing a draw against the in-form title holders. Everton will lose some influential players to the African Nations Cup in the New Year but David Moyes' squad is the strongest it has been for a long time and there are some exciting young players coming through at Goodison at present and they should be more than able to cope.
Golden Boot
Ronaldo, who scored twice against Everton on Sunday, now heads the betting for the season's top scorer. The young Portuguese star, who significantly takes United's penalties, simply gets better and better. He is well worth supporting now to end up with the "Golden Boot" as his odds are likely to shorten rapidly if he continues to hit the target.
