Christmas Crackers
Football
The north London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham has produced plenty of goals in recent years but it could pay to oppose that trend in Saturday's 12.45 pm kick-off at the Emirates Stadium. Both teams had clean sheets in the Premier League last weekend and laying over 2.5 goals is the suggestion as Spurs' new manager Jaunde Ramos bids to let the Gunners' boss Arsene Wenger know there is a new kid on the block.
Bolton v Birmingham on Saturday is likely to be a very tight affair with the teams currently 15th and 16th in the Premier League. Many punters will have the match marked down as a draw and the stats suggest 1-1 is a distinct possibility. However, the best way to profit from the match could be to back Bolton's Nicolas Anelka to score a goal. The French striker has hit the target in his last 3 home League games and, with his history of big money moves in mind, he will be ultra keen to advertise his skills ahead of the January transfer window.
The weekend football treble
Liverpool will find Portsmouth much easier to open up than Man United. Middlesborough have been flattered lately and West Ham can share the points. Blackburn's confidence is low and Chelsea should be to classy.
The busy Christmas and New Year period can make or break a team's season. So, here are a couple of things to remember before having a bet on football in the next couple of weeks.
- The big clubs are best able to cope with the glut of fixtures as their large squads mean they can rest tired players and replace injured ones easily.
- When betting on matches from Boxing Day onwards favour teams that enjoyed good results on the previous Saturday as pressure at this time of year is intense and confidence can be an even bigger asset than usual.

Darts
The PDC World Darts Championship got underway this week at Alexandra Palace in North London. The final is on New Year's Day.
Supporting John Part, who is around 9-1 to reach the final and 33-1 to win outright, could be a fun way to get involved. His first match is on Friday 21st Dec at 9pm against Charles Losper.
Part was thumped 7-0 by Phil Taylor in the 2000 final of this tournament but the following year he only succumbed 7-6 to Taylor in the concluding match. Ideally placed in the bottom half of the draw this year, Part will not meet Taylor again until the final, as long as he progresses, and he confirmed he was in good order when giving "The Power" a tough match before eventually going down 10-7 in the Grand Slam Of Darts last month.

Golf
The recently married Colin Montgomery looks excellent each-way value for the European Order Of Merit at the current 40-1 if tying the knot sparks a revival in his fortunes.
