Envoy to deliver

Having twice capsized at the last flight with big prizes at his mercy this year, few horses deserve to win a race more than Special Envoy. Peter Bowen's five-year-old faces a stiff tack in the Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot on Saturday against established Grade 1 performers Hardy Eustace and Black Jack Ketchum but he has youth on his side and his trainer believes we have yet to see the best of him

The Ladbroke Handicap Hurdle on the same card is ultra competitive but his trainer David Pipe, who supplied last year's winner Acambo, must have a good chance of following up his successes in the big races at Cheltenham a week ago with Laustra Lad. The four-year-old is nicely weighted on his best form and will be all the better for his comeback sixth over the track a month ago.

The giant Gentleman's Deal, who mixes racing with stallion duties, can regain the winning thread at Lingfield in the Listed Robert Leech Quebec Stakes on Saturday. The Mick Easterby-trained six-year-old has won 7 of his 8 starts on the All-Weather.

Earlier on the same card Mark Johnston's colt Call Of Duty looks banker material in the Book Online @LingfieldPark.co.uk Novice Stakes after his impressive debut victory over the course and distance two weeks ago.

The Scottish-trained eight-year-old Lampion Du Post is in cracking form and must not be missed in either the 3m handicap chase at Haydock on the 2m4f handicap chase at Newcastle on Saturday.

Christmas presents

Looking Ahead to the Stan James King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day and the Coral Welsh National at Chepstow a day later, Henrietta Knight's stable star Racing Demon could be the each-way value against Gold Cup winner Kauto Star in the King George while Philip Hobbs' Hennessy runner-up Dream Alliance should make a bold bid in the Welsh marathon.

Shrewd trainer Ferdy Murphy is very hopeful his Leading Man can win the Rowland Meyrick Chase at Wetherby for the second time on Boxing Day.
