Wayne Rooney Top Goal Scorer Online Betting Odds
17th August, 2009
Manchester United striker, Wayne Rooney, scored the winning goal as the reigning champions started the defence of their title with a 1-0 victory over Birmingham City at Old Trafford.
Rooney obtained the 99th goal of his Manchester United career. The centre forward knocked the ball into net after his initial header from Nani's cross bounced back off the post and into his path after 34 minutes had been played.
Rooney, the star performer, was frightening with the ball placed at his feet and was constantly making astute runs when his colleagues were in ownership of the ball.
The visitors from the midlands were defensively minded from the start and this gave the Red Devils plenty of space in midfield. It only took Rooney 12 minutes to cause panic in the Birmingham defence as he hit a dipping 20-yard effort which was acrobatically knocked over the crossbar by Joe Hart.
On the 83rd minute, Rooney’s genius chested through ball flick set up new signing, Michael Owen, with a one on one chance with Hart. However, an excellent from the Birmingham goalkeeper prevented United from putting an end to the argument.
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson told MUTV, "Wayne took his goal well, the header was a good one and then he reacted the right way – he was quick to follow up. That gets him on the road to what we hope will be a very significant total for us this season.”
"It’s good if you can get two or three of your players to score more than 20 goals. Wayne’s capable of that – we’re not asking him to do the impossible."
To finish as the 2009-10 Premier League top Goalscorer Wayne Rooney is 7/1 with bet 24 and 13/2 with canbet.
