Wayne Rooney Injury- Will He Make The World Cup?
31st March, 2010
Striker, Wayne Rooney, looks like he’ll be out for two to four weeks after injuring his right ankle last night in the Champion’s League tie. Rooney is expected to have a scan later this week to discover the true extent of the damage.
With the World Cup only two months away Fabio Capello is sure to be hoping that the star player isn’t too badly hurt.
"I need to speak to someone at Manchester United about it, but I'm never happy when an England player is injured because it's not the best thing for me." Said Capello.
Wayne Rooney left the Stadium on crutches whilst wearing a protective boot, however his Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson didn’t give very much away when asked about the injury.
Speaking immediately after the match, Sir Alex said: "He's obviously hurt his ankle. It is too early to say. I don't think it's terribly serious, but we'll wait and see."
Sky Bet’s football betting spokesman Tim Reynolds said: “We will have to wait and see how bad the injury is to Rooney but even if the injury is not as bad as it looks, I can’t see Sir Alex Ferguson risking him against Chelsea on Saturday.”
This isn’t the first agonising wait England fans have had to suffer over Wayne Rooney’s fitness in the past as back in 2006 he broke a bone in his foot before the World Cup.
The 24year old eventually did go to the tournament however was sent off against Portugal as England went out on penalties. Two years prior to that, he was injured in the quarter finals of Euro 2004.
Sky bet are offering odds of 5/1 that Wayne Rooney will miss the start of the 2010 world cup with odds of 1/10 that he’ll be there from the start.
