Vuvuzela To Be Banned From The World Cup Stadiums!

18th June, 2010

The Vuvuzela horns at the South Africa World Cup seem to be causing more of a stir than the football and the BBC have revealed that they’ve received more than 545 complaints about the horns during their coverage of the tournament.

The traditional horns have divided opinion amongst football fans with some complaining that they distracts the players and drown out commentators whilst others approve and think that its an important part of the South African experience.

Organisers firmly said on Monday that they will not ban the horns from stadiums as they are ‘ingrained I the history of South Africa’. As a result of this, the BBC has said that they are considering offering coverage via their red button service which cuts out the horn sound.

Sepp Blatter, President of Fifa, has also commented that the Vuvuzelas are part of South Africa.

"I have always said that Africa has a different rhythm, a different sound," he said on Twitter. "I don't see banning the music traditions of fans in their own country. Would you want to see a ban on the fan traditions in your country?"

However, Ronaldo of Portugal and Patrice Evra of France both complained about the effects the horns have on their concentration during the game.

A spokesperson for the BBCsaid "If the vuvuzela continues to impact on audience enjoyment, we will look at what other options we can take to reduce the volume further."

Skybet currently have odds of 5/1 that Vuvuzelas will be banned from the World Cup.
