Greyhound racing
We can grab some punting funds to play with over the weekend by supporting Venturemore in the Tony Williams Coronation Cup at Romford on Friday night. John Coleman's dog showed he was a very genuine sort when coming from off the pace in atrocious conditions to catch Ronaldos Merit in his semi-final. He will have to come from behind again, especially it the hot favourite Genesis Dream gets her usual flyer form the traps but at odds of around 7-1 Venturemore rates excellent each-way value.
Blues for Blues
Birmingham will be on a high after their draw at Arsenal last weekend and with home advantage this time they will be a tough nut for Chelsea to crack on Saturday in the battle of the Blues. However, Chelsea are playing very well and their extra class should see them come away with all the points.
Reading have yet to win away this season but they are pretty formidable on their own patch and have amassed 19 points at home. Its hard though to see them getting anything against rampaging Man United. Sunderland have also yet to win away this term and things are unlikley to start changing for the Black Cats at steadily improving Tottenham on Saturday.
Wigan have lost just one of their last 6 games and they will be tough opponents for Everton on Sunday. The visitors, however, are in fine form themselves and this one could easily end in a draw. Aston Villa are another high flying side at present and they are expected to give stuttering Liverpool plenty to think about in Monday night's game and share the points at Anfield.
Swede no turnip
Golf
The Abu Dhabi Golf Championship, the first to the three "Desert Swing" events, takes place in the United Arab Emirates this week. There is a very strong field but we should get a good run for our money by siding with Henrik Stenson. The Swede is based in Dubai and he knows the course well having finished second in the inaugural tournament in 2006 and eighth last year. Miguel Angel Jimenez has a fine record in the desert and, as he comes here in fine form having won recently in Hong Kong, the veteran has to be including in the staking plan.
With Tiger Woods and Phil Nicholson missing, the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic is wide open. Pat Perez, who tied for a fine fourth place in last week's Sony Open, is clearly in great nick and looks decent value at 33-1 to go well again. Chris DiMarco won the Abu Dhabi Championship two years ago but stays Stateside for the Bob Hope and at 66-1 he is worth backing as well.
