The Premier League "Sack Race"

26th August, 2008

The Premiership is unforgiving for managers. Nowadays managers in charge have no time to try and improve their teams fortunes. It only takes a few bad results for a manager to be sacked and this was proved last season with several bosses being axed.

First to go was Martin Jol of Tottenham Hotspurs who was was sacked on the 25th October. Jose' Mourinho left Chelsea on mutual consent and then Sammy Lee did the leaving Bolton Wanderers. Chris Huntington was then next to be sacked by Wigan and, in November, Billy Davies left newly promoted Derby by mutual consent. Lawrie Sanchez was also sacked by Fulham who were fighting in the relegation places.

Sam Allardyce left Newcastle after pressure from the board as did Sven Goran Ericksson at Man City in June. Astonishingly seven managers had either been sacked or left by mutual consent last the season. This demonstrates how short your career can be as a Premiership manager. So who will be first to be sacked this season? Well Sky Bet are taking bets on the leagues "sack race" and have some decent offers for betting punters to consider.
