The Melbourne Cup latest news and betting odds

2nd November, 2009

The Melbourne Cup betting odds appear to be slightly sporadic and bookies have implied that it is hard to predict the winning horse this year with bookies expecting extremely high volumes of bets on the event. Although it seems a tough event to pick a winner, the winner of last year’s Melbourne Cup, Viewed, looks set to race ahead for yet another year.

Although Viewed looks a great bet with the punters rolling in the cash for him, another previous winner of the Melbourne Cup has caused a lot of controversy. Efficient won the cup 2 years ago and looked set to head for the finish line to pick up a second victory this year however, has been struck down with yet another injury and at the last minute has been withdrawn from the race. Punters released a lot of cash on Efficient and have now been forced to turn their attention to Daffodil, who appears to be just behind Viewed with excessive amounts of bets backing it to win.

Ladbrokes is renowned for its horse racing expertise and it seems as though they are offering some of the best prices. Bart Cummings horse, Viewed, is favourite to be his 12th horse to win the cup and is priced at 4/1 to be crowned the winner. Australians favourite Daffodil seems to be a great bet priced at 10/1, if you trust the opinions down under! Another great price available is on former favourite, now second favourite Alcopop priced at 5/1. Roman Emperor is another of Bart Cummings horses who also looks to do well and could be a potential money maker priced 7/1.
