The Heineken Cup at the Weekend

26th January, 2009

The Heineken being the competition that it is always throws up some surprises, and so this weekend was no different. As it came down to the last eight, certain teams that were expected to feature were nowhere to be seen.

Remarkably Toulouse will have to fly the flag for France on its own as the only French team to make the quarter finals. Both Biarritz and Stade Francais were found want this session and were not even in the picture come the last pool games.

Bath will travel to Leicester in the only game to feature teams from the same nation, with Leicester as strong favourites to deal with the southern team.

  • Leicester 4/6

  • Bath 5/4

Ospreys will be happy that Wasps were unable to capitalise on opportunities, although having to face defending champions Munster away from home will be very difficult for them.

  • Munster 4/11

  • Ospreys 9/4

Toulouse will take comfort in the fact that the Blues for in the Magners league has been poor of late, however any misconception of an easy game would be short lived as the Blues will be tough to bet at home.

Paddy Power

  • Cardiff Blues 21/20

  • Toulouse 4/5

Harlequins will have the most tricky of games come April, when they play host to Leinster, both teams have been playing well in their respective home leagues. Even with home advantage it is still to call a likely winner so far from the time.

Paddy Power

  • Harlequins 10/11

  • Leinster 10/11
