Struggle over bookies' TV rights may not be over
14th February, 2008
Racing from 31 different racecourses was due to disappear from screens in both Coral and Ladbrokes earlier this year but the bookies signed last minute deals with Turf TV . Both William Hill and Betfred are thought to be on the verge of signing similar deals. Luckily the big races are not in question and the likes of the Grand National will be available for betting as normal.
Although the companies can now show the racing that will generate so many betting opportunities, they are still due in court over the legality of their buying and selling, ultimately resulting in the ruling of whether Turf TV is legal. With government input over the costing of Turf TV the battle between racing and betting is still ongoing.
