Spain join Germany, Turkey and Russia in the Euro 2008 Semi-Finals
23rd June, 2008
Spain have made it through to the Euro 2008 semi-finals after beating Italy 4-2 on penalties after a goalless draw. They will now face Russia in the second semi final on Thursday, after Germany play Turkey on Wednesday.
This sets up a potential Germany v Spain final, but if Turkey and Russia keep upsetting the favourites then anything is possible. The bookies make Germany slim favourites over Spain after three close-fought wins, whilst Germany managed to score three to get past Portugal. Russia are 7/2 generally after some excellent performances, including a deserved 3-1 victory after extra time over Holland. Turkey are the big outsiders, out as far as 14/1.
Germany go into their game as huge ½ favourites to win the game in normal time, with Turkey at nearly 8/1 with some bookmakers for the win. Russia should prove more of a challenge for Spain, and have been prices at 3/1 to get the victory, whilst Spain are a fair-priced 6/5.
