Sol Campbell to join Arsenal

13th January, 2010

It was four years ago that Sol Campbell left the gunners and it seems as though he is set to make an exciting return.

Campbell appeared with the Arsenal reserves last night and played for 45 minutes against West Ham and it was reported that ‘he played with a view to a permanent move back to Arsenal’, and rumours would confirm he has secured a place on the team.

This move has been no secret and the 35 year old has been training with Arsenal since he left County after playing just one game from a 5 year contract.

Despite his age, Campbell has had several offers from the likes of Newcastle and Hull but the fact that the club bought Campbell great success back in 2001, when he moved from Tottenham to join the gunners, has meant that Arsenal is the team he wants to play for.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger explained, “He has a fantastic attitude and good fitness. He can still play in the Premier League.”

With plans to capture Fabio Capello’s attention before he picks the World Cup squad, Campbell admitted that it was important that he should be playing as many matches as he can in order to be in with a chance.

Online bookies Sky Bet are offering odds on Sol Campbell’s future, including a price of 8/1 that he start against Bolton on Sunday and 7/4 that he gets his first start against Stoke in the FA Cup on 24th January 2010.

A spokesman from Sky Bet said, “Campbell is likely to get a couple more reserve team games under his belt before making an appearance for the first team and it would be a shock to see him play at the Reebok on Sunday.”
