Six Nations Opening Weekend

9th February, 2009

The opening games of this year’s six nations rugby tournament took place this weekend, with bookies being spot on in their predictions; England, Ireland and Wales all won their opening matches.

Despite England winning their opening game, many critics have claimed that England’s score line should have been greater. Whilst England scored 5 tries, many believe that they should have scored more since the Italians were missing a scrum half, which greatly hinder their play.

This weekend England will face Wales in Cardiff. According to Manager, Martin Johnson, “this will be a real eye-opener for the younger guys, it will be a ferocious game and they will have to keep their composure.”

Wales are favourites to retain their six nations crown and go into Saturday’s game favourites.

Bet365

  • Wales 2/7

  • England 11/4

Coral

  • Wales 1/3

  • England 9/4

Despite having a home advantage, there are serious questions hovering over the Italian team, namely, who will play in the no.9 position. Judging by Italy’s performance on Saturday and how they struggled during the match against England without an experienced scrum half, Ireland are the firm favourites to win.
