September's Poll Results
2nd October, 2007
September's poll asked 'How far will England get in the Rugby World Cup?', and the results were as follows:
- Winners: 9%
- Finals: 9%
- Semi-Finals: 18%
- Quarter-Finals: 45%
- Group Stages: 18%
England’s Rugby World Cup got off to a shaky start, but the team has now progressed from Pool A which contained South Africa, Samoa, USA and Tonga. 18% of voters had little faith and predicted that England would not pass this stage. England now face Australia in the quarter-finals on 6 October at 14:00 BST in Marseille. 45% of voters expected England to go no further than this, and the bookies tend to agree, making Australia 1/4 favourites. Also making the quarter-finals are tournament favourites New Zealand who face France also on the Saturday. Sunday sees the final two quarter-finals with South Africa facing huge underdogs Fiji, and Argentina who are favourites to win against Scotland.
18% of voters think that England will make the semi-finals, whilst an optimistic 9% think they will progress to the finals and retain the trophy. At this stage England are 7/2 to make the semi-finals with Ladbrokes, and huge odds (odds comparison) to walk out winners again (just for that 9%..!).
