Senior British Open Odds
22nd July, 2009
Having seen the Claret Jug slip from his grasp at Turnberry on Sunday, Tom Watson has travelled south this week to Berkshire in a bid to land a fourth Senior British Open title.
Watson, aged 59, lost out in a playoff to Stewart Cink at the Scottish venue but emerged with an enormous amount of credit following a performance that belied his veteran status.
A 1,500-1 shot seven days ago, the easy-swinging American is a 25/1 chance with totesport this week but it will be asking a lot of Watson to contend given his recent exertions.
Favourite across the board at Sunningdale Old, a picturesque par 72 parkland course, is German Bernhard Langer and plenty of punters will be willing to take the 6/1 on offer with the likes of Betfred about the two-time Masters champion.
Langer has won on four occasions already this season on the ultra-competitive Champions Tour and must go well but faces strong competition from the likes of fellow Major champions Tom Lehman, Jeff Sluman and Greg Norman.
One player assured of plenty of local support is Scotsman Sam Torrance, a resident of nearby Virginia Water. Torrance was an assistant in the pro shop at Sunningdale in the early 1970's before embarking on a highly successful career and is bound to prove popular at 60/1 with Bet 365 given his course knowledge.
