Scotland Shine In Paris

13th September, 2007

In one of the major upsets of the Euro 2008 qualifier stages so far, Scotland beat France 1-0 in Paris. James McFadden scored the only goal in the second half that sees Scotland move to the top of Group B. They now sit two points clear of France and one above Italy. Despite the great result and good position in the group at this stage, Alex McLeish has admitted: "There is still a lot of work to achieve - we are not qualified yet".

Speaking about the game, McLeish added: "I'm very proud of the players. It's great they get a reward for all their hard work. They showed commitment, passion - everything in abundance. That match gives me one of the greatest nights of my football life. We gave the Scottish fans something to celebrate and I'm glad that my players stood up against a very good French team. We have all made a nation very, very happy. I think this goal is one of the greatest and most important for Scottish football."

Scotland have three remaining games to secure qualification to the Euro 2008 finals, and are 7/2 to win Group B with Blue Square.
