A scan has revealed that Wayne Rooney's healing process is well ahead of schedule, making him a possibility to play at the weekend. A more realistic target would be the meeting with Chelsea on 23rd September. Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is likely to rest him against Everton on Saturday if there is any chance of aggravating the injury, and similarly in their UEFA Champions League opener against Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday.
Rooney was not expected back for another month, giving a well-needed boost to Manchester United, who have struggled for goals as of late, with Cristiano Ronaldo serving a three-match suspension. They have subsequently dropped to third favorites in the race for the Premiership, and are available at an excellent price of 4/1 at Better Bet.
