Ronaldo future remains in the balance

22nd May, 2008

Cristiano Ronaldo’s future remains the subject of much speculation after conflicting statements in the media. After the Champions League Final victory over Chelsea on Wednesday, the Portugese star said to the TV cameras “I stay”.

Later on in an interview the Manchester United player's viewpoint sounded different: "I don't promise nothing. I don't promise nothing to my mum, I don't promise nothing to supporters. I want to stay but the future - no-one knows. I want to stay. We are going to see in the next two weeks, I don't say I make a decision."

The winger has been a huge hit at Manchester United this season, getting 40 goals this season and picking up numerous player of the year awards. His performances have unsurprisingly brought with them plenty of interest, with Real Madrid the front runners. The Spanish giants have admitted they are a huge admirer of the player and will work hard to bring him to the club, despite him having four years left on his contract, signed only last year.

Skybet make Ronaldo 7/2 favourite to be the Premier League’s top scorer next season, with Torres second at 9/2. Many may take a bet on Torres, who had a record first season in the league and will no doubt continue to be a threat next season. There is also the chance that Ronaldo may leave the Premier League, making the Torres odds great value. On top of that, can Ronaldo really have another season as good as that?
