Ronaldo Makes World Player Shortlist

30th November, 2007

The ‘Winker’ Christino Ronaldo has made the shortlist for FIFA’s world player of the year award. The 22-year-old Manchester United starlet has shown consistent quality, and goes up against AC Milan's Brazilian star Kaka, who is the favourite, and Argentine Lionel Messi, who plays for Barcelona.

It is the first time any of the three have been shortlisted for the prestigious award, most recently won my Italian defender Fabio Cannavaro last year. The award will be given out at Fifa's world player gala in Zurich on 17 December.

If the Portuguese winger wins the award he will become the first player from an English club to win the award. Only managers and captains of the national teams of FIFA’s member countries are illegible to vote, and that group of people could be seen as the most ‘in the know’, making the award that much more significant.

VC Bet is giving odds of:

  • Kaka 2/5
  • Lionel Messi 11/2
  • Cristiano Ronaldo 6/1
