Rocket Romps to Victory

17th December, 2007

‘The Rocket’ Ronnie O’Sullivan secured his fourth UK Championship title with a crushing 10-2 victory in the final against Stephen Maguire.

In the opening session, the in-form champ took each of the first eight frames to take a commanding lead of 8-0 in a race to 10. Maguire, winner in 2004, did save some pride with break of 99 and 57 to take two frames in the second session. His comeback did not last long, as O’Sullivan then rattled in two breaks of 126 and 94 to complete the victory.

As the winner, he took home £100,000 plus the £30,000 for a maximum 147 break he made on the way to the final. On winning his 19th ranking title, he said: "People have kept reminding me it's been a few years since I won one but I played well, scored well and enjoyed the match, I knew I had to be at my best to win but I never expected to win by that margin. I have said for a while that of all the young ones who have come on the scene, Stephen is the real deal. Everyone in snooker knows what a class act he is."

O’Sullivan is now the favourite to win the World Championship 2008, at 10/3 with Bet 365. His opponent in the final, Maguire, is 9/1 with VC Bet.
