Rio Ferdinand set for the World Cup 2010

18th December, 2009

There has been a lot of speculation recently about the long-term fitness of Manchester United centre half Rio Ferdinand, but as the choices for the World Cup draw closer, he is confident that his fitness levels are adequate to qualify. Ferdinand played his last match back in October but has not played since due to a calf injury which is related to a long-term back injury.

Despite concerns, Ferdinand has assured fans saying, “I’m confident I’ll be fit. There’s no question I’ll be ready for next summer. The treatment on my injury is going well. It’s been quite slowly-slowly but were getting there now.”

England manager Fabio Capello has stressed that he will not consider anyone who is not fully fit in his 23 man team that he will take with him to South Africa in 2010.

The 31 year old defended himself and attempted to mask the doubt that is beginning to emerge from manager and fans alike saying, “I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. It's been a tough and long layoff for me because I have never been injured before."

Online bookies Paddy Power are offering a price of 1/10 that Ferdinand gets picked for the World Cup squad 2010. For more odds on this market visit Paddy Power and get your hands on a FREE £10 bet!
