Race for the Premier League hots up!
7th April, 2008
After Manchester United could only manage a draw at the weekend against Middlesbrough and Chelsea won against Manchester City, the race for the Premier League suddenly looks like a two-horse race.
United could only salvage a 2-2 draw, in a game which could have gone either way and saw influential defender Ferdinand taken off thanks to an injury. This is a big blow with huge games coming up, considering their other first-team central defender is also out for two or three weeks. Chelsea showed why they are contenders for the title with an easy win away at Manchester City, where not many teams have taken three points this season.
Arsenal’s recent poor form saw them drop plenty of points in recent games and move from odds-on favourites to 22/1 at the time of writing. Chelsea have come from come back into contention from 8/1 earlier this month to 3/1 and less now. United’s slip up against Boro has seen their odds slip slightly to 1/3 with Paddy Power.
With United yet to play Arsenal and Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, these odds look short and are worth laying with a view to back when the odds get longer. However, should Arsenal fail to get a result against the reigning champions, the title looks all but set to be retained by the Red Devils.
Recent results have seen Chelsea move into second favorites to win the title next year at 5/2 with Skybet. Manchester United are nearly evens such is their current strength. Liverpool remain out at 13/2 whilst Arsenal are not expected to produce miracles at 11/4.
