Premiership Top Goalscorer - Betting Preview
15th July, 2008
Their are numerous quality strikers in the Premier League and some new faces will be moving to England during the summer's transfer activities. Spanish sensation David Villa is a name constantly being linked with Liverpool and rumors of Ronaldino joining Man City are still flying around. Dimitar Berbatov looks like he's his heading for the White Hart Lane exit sign as United are keen to snap up the talented Bulgarian.
Last season Fernando Torres had a fantastic first season scoring 23 goals. He looks to be at staying at Anfield and is favourite at 7/2 with Bet Fred to win the golden boot award.
Ronaldo was the star of last season and finished top of the goals scorer table. Yet, the future of the player is unclear as he has expressed his dream move would be to Real Madrid. Even if he was to stay at United he is out for 3 months whilst he undergoes ankle surgery. Priced at 4/1 with Paddy Power, it would be a risky bet to put on at a time of uncertainty for the winger's future.
A move north for Berbatov looks likely and if he joins United he will no doubt have ample opportunities to score. Priced at 11/1 with Paddy Power he's is definitely worth a bet.
Didier Drogba has just signed a new contract with the Blues and will leading the Chelsea attack next season, under new manger Scolari. He will ensure Chelsea play attacking football therefore Drogba is likely to find the back of the net a lot next season. Priced at 8/1 with Sky Bet.
Rooney didn't score that many last season, but will be looking to improve his finishing before the new season begins. Everyone know the ability he has, and if he puts his mind to it, I'm sure he can score as many as any other striker in the league. 14/1 with sky bet.
Outsider Robert Van Persie is priced at a decent 16/1 with Betfred . The Dutchman struggled with injury last season and has yet to have a decent goal scoring run in the league. If Arsenal sell Adebayor, Van Persie will be their main man up front and he has the ability to score plenty.
Our tip:
Scolari will make sure Chelsea score plenty, and Didier Drogba will be his main goal machine. His power and skill will ensure he will score numerous goals next season. Lat season he was injured for long periods and will be determined to make up for those missed games
Skybet 5/1
