Premiership Betting - Man City
4th September, 2008
No one can possibly say the Premiership is boring. The final day of the transfer window saw a hive a activity, drama and controversy, even without any football being played! The drama began with the takeover of Manchester City FC. New owners, the Abu Dhabi United Group, are reportedly worth around the £600 billion mark. This unimaginable, unbelievable amount of funds means, money will be no matter for the new owners.
Reports believe that Sheikh Mansour has put aside around £540 million to spend on players and says money in no object. Their ambition is clear as they hope to make Man City the largest and most powerful club in the world. Manager Mark Hugues has already brought Brazilian star Robinho to bloster attacking options and has the option of bidding for any player he wants playing in his team. Messi, Ronaldo, Kaka and Berbatov are on Sheikh's wish list.
Newcastle United and Kevin Keegan's rumored departure has also grabbed the head lines in recent days as it was reported he had been sacked after only 8 months in charge. Soon after this Newcastle announced that he was still manager and that talks a continuing between Keegan and the board. Fans have shown their frustration with the board and are supporting Keegan who is seen as a Toon legend. United have signed Berbatov fighting off a bid from rivals City.
These extraordinary events have had a big affect on the betting market. Man City have now become fifth favourites to win the league priced at 50/1 and are 9/2 with Sky Bet to finish in the top four.Sky Bet also make City 6/5 to finish 4th, 5th or 6th this term. The new owners first game will be against Chelsea on the 13th September and their team are now 4/1 to beat Scolari's side. New £32.5 million signing Robinho is a decent 50/1, with VC Bet, to be top goal scorer by the end of the season.
