Premier League round-up

31st March, 2008

Derby County became the first team to be relegated in March, and the big four all recorded victories at the weekend.

Despite gaining rare points, Paul Jewell’s Derby we relegated thanks to results elsewhere in the Premier League. A 2-2 draw with fellow strugglers Fulham was not enough to spare the blushes for another week.

Arsenal showed they still have some fight left in them after coming back from 2-0 down and 10 men at half time to grab all three points in an eventful 3-2 win at Bolton. It was left late before an own goal gave all three points to the London side, and seemingly condemned Bolton to an inevitable relegation.

Manchester United continued to impress with an easy 4-0 win over Aston Villa, Ronaldo again showing why he will be named player of the year. A hat-trick of assists and one superbly-taken goal for himself cemented United’s spot at the top of the table.

Chelsea continue to put pressure on the leaders and regained second spot from Arsenal on Sunday with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Middlesbrough. The away side were unfortunate not to go home with any points, hitting the woodwork three times, but only forcing Cudicini into one save. The win puts Chelsea five points behind the leaders, with Arsenal one put further behind.

After the weekend’s results, Man U are as short as ¼ with Betfred, Chelsea are out to about 4/1, whilst Arsenal have slipped to a huge Bet 365 after being odds-on a couple of weeks ago.
