Premier League Weekend Preview

23rd November, 2007

After more international disappointment, English football fans will be behind their club teams more than ever. The 10 games this weekend will look to put English football back on the map.

Possible candidates for the newly-vacant England manager position, Rafa Benitez and Sam Allardyce, go head to head in what is likely to be a huge clash, as Liverpool travel to Newcastle United.

The top three in the table are in action at the traditional Satuday 3pm slot, with champions Manchester United visiting Bolton, hoping for a repeat of last year’s 4-0 thrashing.

Arsneal welcome the Wigan Athletic to the Emirates, with Wigan looking to seal the signing of Steve Bruce before the game.

Reading will face a tough task as they travel north to Manchester City, whose 100% home record will be hard to break, especially as Reading are yet to record an away win this season.

Managerless Birmingham City will play the dangerous Portsmouth at home, with Eric Black taking control in a caretaker role.

Middlesborough and Sunderland have been under pressure up north recently, and will face tricky opposition, Borough at home to Aston Villa, and Everton welcomeing the latter.

Derby face an uphill struggle against Chelsea as they look for just a second league win on the season, despite the home advantage. Chelsea will be wanted to consolidate their postion in the top four, and Derby will be desperate to make sure they are not bottom at Christmas.

Sunday’s games sees a London derby, as West Ham are at home to the nearby Tottenham Hotspur.

Also being played in London, Blackburn Rovers visit Fulham with their manager Mark Hughes having jus signed a new contract with the club to stay on until 2010.

Popular bets this weekend will be at Arsneal, who will be expected to put a few goals past Wigan, an asian handicap -2 bet is likely to see decent returns on Saturday. Some punters will also be looking at the Derby v Chelsea game with interest, as longer odds for similar bets will be found at most of the bookies.
