Premier League Weekend Betting Round-Up
28th April, 2008
At the top of the Premier League, Chelsea and Manchester United now sit level on points, a superior goal difference the only thing keeping the reigning champions on top. In the battle to avoid relegation, Fulham recorded a win that kept their dreams of staying up alive.
Michael Ballack scored two goals, one from the spot, to give Chelsea a 2-1 win over Manchester United. Wayne Rooney’s gifted equaliser was not enough to give them the result they needed to virtually secure the title. The two sides now both have 81 points, but United’s hugely superior goal difference will effectively count for another point. The result also means that the title will probably be decided on the final weekend. Currently Bet 365 make United 1/3 to win the title, and 5/2 to Chelsea to turn it around.
Birmingham, Reading and Bolton each claimed a point which was not enough to distance any of them from the scrap, as second-from bottom Fulham came from 2-0 down to win the game in the final minute. Results at the bottom mean Bolton and Reading have 33 points, Birmingham have 32 and Fulham have 30. The bookies think Fulham and Birmingham won’t be playing in the Premier League next season. Fulham are as short at 1/6 with BetterBet to face the drop, Birmingham are around evens. The bookmakers think Bolton will be safe for another year at 7/4, along with Reading at 2/1.
In the race for the UEFA Cup spot, Everton retain the spot by three points after a draw against closest competitors Aston Villa. Blackburn beat Portsmouth 1-0 but the result looks likely to mean little in the grand scheme of things. Use our odds comparison service to find the best Premier League odds.
