Potential Hatton vs. Marquez Clash Online Betting Odds

19th November, 2009

Ricky Hatton the Former two-weight world boxing champion has given the strongest indication yet that he will return to the ring in the New Year.

Hatton was brutally knocked out by the current pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao in the second round back in May.

Richard Schaefer, chief executive of Golden Boy Promotions has confirmed that Mexican star Juan Manuel Marquez has accepted the challenge to take on the Hitman in the U.K.

Schaefer told Sky Sports "I have informed him of the possibility of a showdown in England, in Manchester, against Ricky Hatton and he immediately accepted the challenge, accepted the opportunity and would love to come to Manchester."

Marquez has fought at the highest level for a number of years and has fought Manny Pacquiao twice, drawing the first time then losing controversially on points. However Marquez is coming off a one sided points defeat to five-weight world champion Floyd Mayweather Jnr. Mayweather and Pacquiao are the only people to have defeated Hatton in his 47 fight professional career.

The 36 year old Marquez has captured world titles at three different weights and will represent a serious challenge for Hatton with his aggressive brawling tactics. The fight is expected to take place in the 140 pound light-welterweight division where Hatton has been for nearly all, of his career. Marquez the reigning WBA and WBO (135 pound) lightweight champion shall step up to the higher weight class. This should not be too much of a problem considering his last fight against Mayweather was at a, 145 pounds.

Ricky Hatton is 11/10 while Juan M Marquez is 8/11 with Sky Bet. The draw is 25/1.
