Portsmouth odds lengthen as their performance worsens
22nd September, 2009
It seems that luck is not on Portsmouth’s side and their success levels are something that no football manager would wish on another.
In this weekend’s game, Portsmouth lost yet again making it their sixth defeat in the league so far. Aston Villa’s win has meant that the only title Portsmouth FC will be taking is the first team in over a quarter of a century to lose their opening six games. The Rams has the lowest ever tally of points in the Barclays Premier and Sky Bet are offering odds of 4/1 that Portsmouth will beat this record this season.
A spokesperson from Sky Bet explained, “Portsmouth have had their worst start to a Premier League season and it’s hard to see where they will pick up points with the way they are leaking goals. They face Wolves and Hull within the next month and if they fail to get a result against either of those sides, they could be facing a very long and disappointing season.”
It seems that bookies do not have a lot of faith in the team and this is reflected in the continuous lengthening odds that they are offering. Sky Bet are paying out at 13/5 that will gain their first successful game this Saturday against Everton, 6/1 that they will win against Tottenham and 5/4 that Portsmouth don’t manage to steal a defeat within their first ten league games.
