Peggy Mitchell leaves Eastenders

29th October, 2009

The news has been broken that one of England’s biggest characters of Eastenders is to be let go and bookies cannot help but think that it is going to be a spectacular send off!

Actress Barbara Windsor has been with Eastenders for 15 years and has made a significant impact to both the cast and fans. The 72 year old star has explained her reasons for leaving the show, telling fans that she feels it is right that she spends more time with her husband aged 46.

As with all soaps, there are long hours and millions of lines to learn in preparation of solid days of intense filming, especially for those who have hold of the bigger parts, like Barbara. Barbara did manage to take afew minutes to acknowledge her time with Eastenders explaining that, “I have had the pleasure of working with a marvellous cast and crew and to have had the honour of showing the Queen around the set will stay with me forever.”

Fans and cast alike believe that Peggy Mitchell is a fantastic character that adds fun and life to the show and BBC bosses are wondering how life on Albert Square will carry on without her saying, “To most of the British public Barbara IS Eastenders, and it’s almost impossible to imagine Albert Square without her.”

It appears that no one is letting on to how the ex Carry On actress will be executed from the show and producers are letting the public have some time to ponder on what outrageous ending the star will have!

Paddy Power has released betting odds on how they think the actress is likely to depart and it looks as though a definite ending entailing death may be involved. It would seem a shame to completely write Babs out of the show as it is always nice to leave open doors to much loved characters. It seems that it will be the end of her time at Eastenders but not the end of her career with friends reporting, “It might be the last of Peggy but this isn’t the last of Babs”.

Possible endings include the star contracting a terminal illness which is priced as favourite at 3/1, a stoke follows at 7/2 with suicide at 10/11 and the possibility of Peggy being sent to a mental asylum is backed at 100/1.

Other options that are Eastenders favourites when it comes to writing someone out include being in a car crash or knocked down at 9/2, a move abroad at 8/1, shot being backed at 14/1 and sent to prison backed at 20/1.
