Paddy Power leaves IBA
23rd October, 2007
Big-name bookmaker Paddy Power has left the Irish Bookmakers Association (IBA) over 'irreconcilable differences' according to the group. Chair of the IBA, Sharon Byrne said that the split was caused by differences over the IBA's budget submission. This included funding of the horse racing industry, repatriation and measures needed to bolster the future of Ireland's smaller bookmakers. Currently the IBA contains nearly three quarters of the betting shops in Ireland, and the organisation later said they regretted the decision.
