Yesterday bought London its first snowflake and it sent everyone into a festive frenzy! With temperatures still low today and reports that tonight is going to be colder than yesterday, many are hoping to draw back the curtains tomorrow morning to find a thick sheet of snow covering the car!
Online bookies Paddy Power is bracing itself for a massive £50,000 payout on over 4000 bets that were wagered on it being a white Christmas Day this year. Although many were sceptical a week or so ago that the snow would not come, yesterdays snowfall has convinced many that we will have snow on 25th December 2009!
The odds on a white Christmas have been drastically cut from 5/1 to 9/4 as the temperatures have plummeted over the past few days. Paddy Power reported that one lucky punter wagered £250 at a price of 4/1 last month!!
A spokesman from Paddy Power explained, “With just eight days to go until Christmas the first snowfall has put everyone in a real festive cheer. It’s been a tough year on everybody’s pockets so why wait until December 25th to receive your winnings when our early Christmas present means you can start celebrating early!”
